Keith Mines is a member of the Alexandria First Ward in the Virginia, Mount Vernon Stake, where he serves as Sunday School President. He and his wife Cecile, a painter, have four grown children whom they raised in Israel, El Salvador, Haiti, Hungary, Canada, and Mexico.

Following his mission to Colombia, Brother Mines served in the U.S. Army Special Forces where he participated in the liberation of Grenada and supported democratic movements in Central America. He then served a career in the Foreign Service with short tours in Israel, El Salvador, Haiti, Hungary, Canada, Mexico, Darfur, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Iraq. His book, Why Nation Building Matters, tells the story of America’s efforts to help nations reset after civil war or dictatorship.

He served twice in Israel, in the first tour traveling widely in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and in the second supporting the Kerry Peace Initiative through the 2014 Gaza War. In addition to the search for peace, he became intrigued by the relationship between Latter-Day Saints and the Jewish and Muslim peoples during these tours.

He currently serves as director for Latin America at the U.S. Institute of Peace, where he focuses on urging a democratic transition in Venezuela, and the recovery of governance in Haiti.

Virtual broadcast begins at approximately 8:00pm

We prosper when we act on a sense of identity and destiny.  When disruptions come and we lose our sense of direction, we tend to spiral downward.  Our life journey becomes an exercise in wandering.  The associated feelings are often loneliness and despair.  In the Church, we have access to a gift that can help.  It is called a patriarchal blessing.  Yet many people receive patriarchal blessings and then express disappointment.  They find little value.  In contrast, there are a few who find great value in their blessing.  As they organize their lives to the document they grow in sense of purpose and meaning.  How is this possible?  In this session, we will consider how to read a patriarchal blessing, how to “cause” it to work, and how to use it to obtain many revelations daily.

Your Authentic Questions:

Once you RSVP, a paper on the above topic will be emailed to you.  Please read it and formulate your one most authentic question.  An authentic question is a question you truly care about but you do not know the answer to.  Please submit your question by replying to the email you received no later than Sunday, July 25, 2021.  Your questions will be forwarded to the speaker and he will turn them into a framework of discussion.

All single adults (age 31+) from the Annandale, Ashburn, Centreville, Gainesville, McLean, Mount Vernon, Oakton, and Woodbridge stakes are invited to attend.  RSVP is required for in-person attendance.  RSVP below by July 25, 2021
